Blecon Launches Bluetooth Cloud-Connected Modules

Delivering Bluetooth Cloud Connectivity, Secure Identity, Geolocation, Global Time, Over-the-Air Updates, Pre-certified Hardware and Zephyr-RTOS-Based Applications Development Out of the Box

London, UK – March 10th, 2025 – Blecon, a leader in Bluetooth Low Energy cloud connectivity, today announced Blecon-enabled  modules in collaboration with leading Bluetooth module manufacturers. These modules provide cloud connectivity over Bluetooth Low Energy, featuring secure identity, geolocation, global time synchronisation and over-the-air (OTA) updates, combined with pre-certified hardware and Zephyr-based application development, enabling developers to bring Bluetooth cloud-connected products to market faster.

“By integrating Blecon support directly onto Bluetooth modules, we’re enabling developers to bring cloud-connected products to market even faster, eliminating risk and reducing engineering effort,” said Simon Ford, CEO of Blecon. “For many companies, these modules are the smart choice; they eliminate hardware barriers of RF design, testing and certification combined with software built for Bluetooth IoT.”

Accelerating IoT Development and Deployment

Blecon-enabled modules offer out-of-the-box capabilities that solve many common IoT challenges for Smart Beacons and Bluetooth IoT Devices:

  • Cloud Connectivity – No need for building gateways or networks. Blecon-enabled modules use existing Bluetooth infrastructure including phones and laptops, or dedicated generic gateways to securely communicate with cloud applications.
  • Trusted Identity & Security – Each device features a unique, verifiable identity, ensuring secure authentication and encrypted communication with cloud applications.
  • Location Without GPS – Device geolocation is detected and reported using just Bluetooth infrastructure, reducing hardware cost and power consumption.
  • Global Time Synchronisation – Devices automatically synchronise their real-time clock (RTC) with the global network time, ensuring precise time-stamping for data collection and event logging that is common across all devices.
  • Seamless OTA Updates – Modify and iterate functionality and keep devices secure with in-band remote firmware updates, eliminating the need for physical maintenance interventions.
  • Pre-Certified Hardware - Inheriting expert RF design, testing and pre-certification of a full radio subsystem to accelerate and derisk hardware development.

Blecon-Enabled Bluetooth Modules

Blecon has collaborated with leading module vendors to enable these capabilities. At release, Blecon-enabled modules include the Ezurio BL54L15, Fanstel BM15, InsightSiP ISP2454-LX, Panasonic PAN B511-1x, Raytac AN54L15Q, Minew ME54BS01 and u-Blox NORA-B20.

This support unlocks new market opportunities for Bluetooth modules, as devices evolve from paired connections to cloud network connected devices. It also enables Beacons to become smarter IoT devices, capable of secure identity, secure bidirectional communication, and cloud integration

Ezurio has over 20 years of experience designing and manufacturing Bluetooth modules, providing reliable and resilient connectivity implementations.” said Jonathan Kaye, VP Product Management at Ezurio. “Our newest BL54L15 module based on the nRF54L is now available, and combined with Blecon’s cloud connectivity solution opens up our modules to more applications than ever before.”

Time to market for new devices is critical, requiring hardware and RF skills whilst now being dominated by software complexity.

“With Blecon’s cloud connectivity integrated with our modules, our customers can now bring Bluetooth IoT products to market even faster, with reduced complexity and risk,” said Lyon Liu, CEO, Raytac. “Our new Blecon-enabled AN54L15Q modules are available today, providing a rapid solution for delivering cloud-connected Bluetooth applications.”

Built on Nordic Semiconductor’s nRF54L and Zephyr

The modules launching at Embedded World 2025 are built on Nordic Semiconductor’s nRF54L Series, a next-generation SoC designed for high-performance, low-power IoT. Its enhanced processing power, advanced security, and extended battery life make it an ideal platform for cloud-connected Bluetooth products. The nRF54L Series is supported by the nRF Connect SDK, which is built on the Zephyr operating system and includes a complete Bluetooth SiG qualified stack, making it a production-ready solution.

“The nRF54L Series unlocks new possibilities for Bluetooth IoT, and Blecon-enabled modules extend these capabilities even further,” said Sam Presley, nRF54L Series Technical Product Manager at Nordic Semiconductor. “Combined with our long-standing partnership with module vendors, this accelerates development and provides a fast track to market.”

Blecon’s software is built on and integrated with the Zephyr open-source RTOS, enabling developers with a modern, scalable platform with broad industry support and long-term flexibility. Alongside Nordic Semiconductor and Ezurio, Blecon is now a member of the Zephyr Project under the umbrella of the Linux Foundation.

“Zephyr RTOS is designed to support the future of connected devices,” said Kate Stewart, Vice President of Dependable Embedded Systems. “As Bluetooth devices get smarter and more connected, we welcome Blecon’s capabilities to make developers more efficient in the Zephyr ecosystem. We are excited about their support as the newest Zephyr Project member.”

By combining Nordic’s latest hardware and software, Zephyr’s flexible embedded operating system, and Blecon’s Bluetooth cloud connectivity, these modules provide an out-of-the-box solution for companies looking to deliver Bluetooth IoT products avoiding the pitfalls of designing custom RF hardware and network infrastructure software.
